画凰 Teppanyaki is inspired by a millennium-old national treasure painting — "The Literary Gathering" (Wenhui Tu), a masterpiece handed down by Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty, Zhao Ji. Its brand slogan is "Painting echoes through the ages, the phoenix dances across the world." The restaurant integrates three major culinary sections: Taiwanese-style teppanyaki, Hunan and Cantonese stir-fries, and grilled meats and roasts. Bringing together diverse Chinese cuisines, it creates Song Dynasty banquet‑inspired teppanyaki fusion dishes. Had lunch with a coworker. I rarely eat teppanyaki, but my coworker likes it, so we chose Hua Huang. The portion for the two-person set meal was decent — the shrimp in the set were quite large, and the vegetables were fresh. It was basically enough for two. The chef adjusted the cooking pace based on how fast we were eating and checked in with us about our preferences from time to time, which was a nice plus.
Today I discovered a hidden gem on the fourth floor of Hanshin Plaza. Our family of three ordered nine dishes, and they were all cooked right in front of us. Our child found the whole cooking process fascinating, and not a single dish disappointed.
